I have come across an Indian Head Cent from 1869.

From initial research it seems to a scarce date.

An opinion on its grade would be much appreciated, I was thinking perhaps fine?
    Thanks for your time.

One common metric used on IHC is the lettering LIBERTY on the headband. These are almost completely worn away on your coin. The reverse is much better than the obverse, but IMO you have a G4+ to maybe a VG8 allowing for the reverse. Using that ballpark grade you can combine the scarcity and come close to an actual value.

Were you planning on trying to sell the coin? If so, the confirmed scarcity will overrule the condition. Perhaps another member will chime in here and provide some info on the scarcity.

Thank you I appreciate your reply, using the Liberty writing makes sense

Allan, Do 2 things to give yourself a better idea on its’ worth and condition:

    1. Google “1869 Indian Head Cent value scarcity”. You end up with an answer supplied by an AI robot, you have to decide if you trust the info. My recommendation is do more research.

    2. Go to Numismedia.com and navigate to their listings for 1869 IHC G4 Brown.
This site offers Fair Market Value (FMV) data for most US denominations, mostly the more common ones.

    Hope this helps…Spark

This is a tougher date in the series. I’m thinking a G-4 or G-6 for the grade. Retail should be around $100. I believe there is a variety for the 1869, the 9 appears to be doubled. Your photo get blurry on me do please check it closely. I don’t think it is but you need to check since it’s in hand.
