" There are 5 Varieties of ,plus a transitional sub- variety , of the reverses of the 1868 shield nickels. They are distinguished by a certain Number of BROKEN letters .
To identify these varieties , simply look at the Star at 12:00 . If the Star points to the E of STATES , it's the more common "reverse of 1867 ".If it points to the S, it is the " reverse of 1868". I have here my F903, FS904 and FS906. The 903 has 3 missing ( actually sections of ) letters. The 904 has four missing letters and the 906 is a transitional between Variety 5 and Variety 1. The C in cents is " underdeveloped " if you will.
Can you find the Missing (part of) letters ?
Ohh.. One is graded, can you tell me which ??
