    Hey guys!

I was photographing this coin to put on ebay today and I noticed the marks on the coin. They look like clash marks (but could very well be die breaks as well) This reminds me of the flying eagle cents with the different clashes... it could be nothing but I wanted a few other sets of eyes on it.

Anyone else see this? Or am I just wishing?

I think it's a clash. I believe I can see the 'OD' of GOD at bottom right of 'S' in CENTS on the reverse, as well as a..... 'U'? of TRUST between the dot and the 'C' of CENTS. The obverse has interesting anomalies also starting at about 2 o'clock traveling down the outer edge of the branch, through the field at about 5 o'clock and continuing to the rim; I don't see how that could match up as a clash with the reverse die but I see what you are referring to. Nice. :)

The most interesting part to me was this area here... what the heck caused that?

Shield nickels were infamous for shattering dies, they removed the rays in 1867 to try to lesson it. This coins appears to have both die breaks and a clash. I bet you that set of dies were not long for this world after it struck this coin.

A friend once had the most spectacular shield nickel. It was a 66 where the obverse literally shattered. It literally had to be the last coin struck on that die. If someone likes this type of error there is no better place to look than shield nickels.
