I have a question about this nickel, my first thought was that it is fake, but I thought better of it. Who would fake a 15-20$ coin. This coin has a silhouette of the head on the reverse. If you look at the picture it is located on the left of the first I. After I noticed it, i looked through some pictures of the coin on ebay and found it in a lot of the pictures located there. Is this an error, or no? Or could it still possibly be a fake. These pictures were scanned at 500dpi. 18663centnickel 001.jpg

it looks like it's a die clash. at least, that's my guess. someone with more experience than me at these things should be along soon and help.

Thanks for your reply after your assessment, I was able to do some research and found that die clashing was very common in the early 3 cent pieces. My hopes of having something worth more than I originally thought has turned out to be wishful thinking. Thanks again.
