Picked up this coin today and when I brought it home it looks like there are gas bubbles next to a couple of the letters. There is also machine doubling on some of the letters. I was wanting some opinions on the gas bubbles specifically but also on the machine doubling. Thanks and here are pics.

Might be die chips, might be die rust. It is not gas bubbles.

I rotated and flipped the coin and put arrows pointing to why I thought they might be gas bubbles. I thought that those might have been holes which allowed air to enter and make the bubbles. I do understand it could be either of the 2 you mentioned Conder. Also, thanks for the response.

EDIT: The bottom right arrow on the obverse is connected to a small die crack. I thought air might be able to get in there too.

From what I understand, gas bubbles are not formed from air getting in. The gas is trapped when the blank is made. Don't think I have ever known of these having gas bubbles. I'm thinking it was die damage of some type.

Most likely die chips and a rusty die.
