2 years ago my Dad gave me a large amount of his collection. Among this was an 1865 3 cent nickel that he bought for $4 at an auction in 1962 when he was 10 years old. This sparked my interest as I had never seen one before. With wanting to keep this coin in the family I would like to send it in to NGC for grading. I photograded it with the ANA app on my iPhone and it is IMO MS63. The thing is it's denticles are smooth from about 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock on the reverse. They are also somewhat faint on the obverse around the 12 o'clock area. It also has some copper colore streaks on both sides. I'm guessing from an inconsistent mixing of the copper-nickel alloy. Otherwise it is an extremely clean coin for it's age. I am wondering if this is common for these coins or if any of you have experience with them, a little more info. Thx Coinsnake
There's no point right now, my camera is horrible at close ups. You'd be lucky if you could tell what type of coin it was. Sorry, but I hope to get a better camera soon.
