I got this coin along with some others a few days ago. When I was looking at it I noticed it had what appears to be some sort of die break or other error type. I'm wondering what kind of error this is and how much it might be worth?
    It's an 1865 3 cent (nickle) in VG/F condition.

On the right side you see this large mess of metal within the leaves and up along the rim and then on the left side there's also a small break.

looks like a die break, you photos are a bit fuzzy, and I believe it would be a 15-20% premium over the initial value of the grade. To the right buyer.I buy stuff like that all the time.So Im pretty aware of the values.very cool piece

Probably very little premium, as a rather large portion of these nickel based 3 cents have die cracks, breaks, etc. due to the hardness of the metal. Some you have to wonder how the die even stayed together when striking. They also had large numbers of repunched dates and doubled dies, so look at the obverse very carefully. These do have a small premium, but alas, not as much as I would like too.

I think it is actually harder to find them without die clashes ect...
