1864-S seated quarter

    one of the coins that i got for christmas is a 1864-s seated quarter, my grandfather new little about the coins and i havent done much with them. i was wondering grade and value if anything?

    Wow amazing find. I would put at VG-08 with a value of 800! Got a key date there. On another note it looks like there was some cleaning attempted on the obverse. All in all I believe it would go for about 500

    well i know for a fact that there was no cleaning at all. it went from my great grandfathers store to my grandfather and he put them in a box and forgot about them, and gave them to me for christmas. i cant wait to go through the rest of the coins.

    It's a great coin but I feel the damage will keep it from grading.

    okay, so i took the coin into a coin dealers shop, he said to soak in acetone for 2 days, and that would increase value... soak and to dry roll over with q-tip.

    A soak in acetone is a good idea but don't use q-tips. Don't rub or wipe the coin in any way. The acetone will dry in a few seconds.
