Is anyone aware of an 1864 L DDO?
There is definitly doubling on the lettering on one I own, just curious if there is a recognized variety, or if it is most likely Machine doubling. Sorry I tried relentlessly to get pictures that close and clear enough to show the detail, But that seems impossible with a regular ole' camera.
    Thanks,
    Shawn

Cherrypicker's Guide lists several RPDs but no DDOs. Sorry.

Snaz, do you have a photo? Probably it is just what they call Longacre's doubling. I've had a lot with that. There is a DDO of the Bronze without the L, but that is mainly in "Liberty".

    Hi Jim,
    Thanks for your help.
Now I don't think it is Longacre. The doubling is strong on the words "United" and "America" And the doubling is evident on all the inside walls of the "U".

Does anyone have a better link I could read about Longacre doubling from other than http://www.coinresource.com/articles/mystery_coin.htm?
Also, No sorry Jim, I can't seem to manage the camera well enough to get a crisp shot of the letters.
    Sorry,
    Shawn

    Snow does not list one.
    Neither does Steve/Flynn's "Authorative reference".

There is an 1864 NO L, DDO, but the Doubling is on the Liberty.

Do you have the picture of the coin? It could just be mechanical doubling ;)

Seems like an excellent source to explain it. The pics are quite clear, and they explain the what, why and how very well.

What is it you don't understand ?

I don't see any listed in the Fly-In Club census report or variety listings.

Actually that sounds like possibly good evidence that it IS Longacre doubling.
