Is anyone aware of an 1864 L DDO? There is definitly doubling on the lettering on one I own, just curious if there is a recognized variety, or if it is most likely Machine doubling. Sorry I tried relentlessly to get pictures that close and clear enough to show the detail, But that seems impossible with a regular ole' camera. Thanks, Shawn
Ok, ty I think you mean.. Congrats Snaz! You're a millionaire!!! It's not mentioned in the cherrypickers guide! lol jk Thanks again, Shawn
Snaz, do you have a photo? Probably it is just what they call Longacre's doubling. I've had a lot with that. There is a DDO of the Bronze without the L, but that is mainly in "Liberty". Jim
Hi Jim, Thanks for your help. Now I don't think it is Longacre. The doubling is strong on the words "United" and "America" And the doubling is evident on all the inside walls of the "U". Does anyone have a better link I could read about Longacre doubling from other than http://www.coinresource.com/articles/mystery_coin.htm? Also, No sorry Jim, I can't seem to manage the camera well enough to get a crisp shot of the letters. Sorry, Shawn
Snow does not list one. Neither does Steve/Flynn's "Authorative reference". There is an 1864 NO L, DDO, but the Doubling is on the Liberty.
Seems like an excellent source to explain it. The pics are quite clear, and they explain the what, why and how very well. What is it you don't understand ?
Here's a good photo and explaination on the subject to see what kind of doubling this is longacre's Doubling jazzcoins Joe I hope this helps you edit - posting scans from books is not permitted - copyright infringement
I don't see any listed in the Fly-In Club census report or variety listings. www.fly-inclub.org Bruce
