Hi, I just picked up an 1864 2 cent piece that is in pretty rough shape. I can't tell whether it is the Large Motto or Small Motto... can anyone tell? Let me know! ~mrtrek
Large Motto. The D in GOD gives it away. It is tall and pronounced where the small motto is fatter and more rounded.
Whoopig...when a 2 cent piece is in this kind of shape...you can see the D or any other letter for that matter good enough to tell what it is... This is what I guy told me...so here it is. Speedy
Speedy, The D on this coin is still very legible and is what I used to make my judgement. After seeing a few of the small motto varieties, it is a very noticable difference even in this state of wear.
Thats good enough for me ;--) I had never heard of using the D to find out what it was....in every book I've seen its the left. Speedy
okay, the reason I thought perhaps it was a small motto was the T, as you can see in these pics (although it's more clear when it's in your hand, obviously): Thanks, ~mrtrek
