You stated attempted hole. Does it have to be all the way through to be considered a hole? If so what is this a crater? : )

PS.. I agree with the VG Grade but damaged and Large Motto or Letters.

 

I'm not Frank, but believe that to qualify as a "hole", it would need to go through the other side.

 

So is a BB hit considered an attempted hole? :goof: That one looks like a BB hit to me.

Since we don't know what was on the perpetrator's mind, we don't know if it was an attempted hole or not By the way, I guess technically, a hold need not go through to the other side in order to qualify as such. But in coin lingo, unless the other side is breached, it is usually called damage, a depression, a dig, a crater, whatever.

Probably. But even for the crime of attempted holing, the perp should still get 20 to Life. After all, this is an 1864 2C.

 

I would grade it "JUNK BOX". Still, that's a great coin to give to a youngster and maybe create a numismatist!
