Here’s an 1863 token for the Army & Navy. The obverse had Lady Liberty surrounded by 13 stars for the original colonies. The reverse has a wreath with the Army and Navy centered. At the base is a pair of crossed swords. It’s in great condition with a few signs of Mint red and luster when held in your hand.
Very nice. May be a dumb question… when you say mint red, if the red severely shows on a, say a quarter and red coming through, does that make a difference of buying any coin?
Red on a clad quarter (1965 or newer) is discoloring from exposure to chemicals or buried in the ground. If you have a picture of such a coin please post it for examination
Brand new, shiny copper coins are usually described as "red". As they age, they turn brown. So red, in the case of a copper coin like this one, is desirable.
Do you mind if I post that quarter? With the red? Heavy metal asked to post. Just want to make sure it’s ok to.
Looks like it was painted and it’s wearing off. A lot of quarters from 1964 were painted red to note them as silver coins because in 1965 they were clad. I’m just speaking for circulation issues and not anything in Mint, Proof or other sets.
