A very commonly encountered late-19th century counterstamp on French Napoleon III bronzes.

I'd like to find one that was holed, for my holey coin collection.

    Neat piece.

There's a webpage or two out there about them, if you search around. I'm too distracted at the moment. Working in five different tabs and getting texts on my phone.

Your coin has been counter stamped as free advertising. Very common in that time frame.

But made for usage in Britain where it "circulated" as a penny coin, the penny and the 10 centimes being similar sizes. Whereas the French didn't mind defacing their monarchs' image especially after he sent up the white flag at the Battle of Sedan in 1871 - the British would have been loathe to have defaced HRH Victorias' image.

Welcome to CT @justyn p. It is always nice to have members from outside the U.S. to contribute. Nice counter stamped coin BTW.

I have many of these Pears Soap coins. The OP's was struck with a punch that had the lower leg of the S in Soap broken off.
