I did a search and found this image: According to the American Numismatic Association, this note is a commonly reproduced note. Reproductions are interesting and educational, but most don't carry any collector value. The known replicas are as follows: NORTH AMERICA Bank of North America (Philadelphia); $1: Jan. 30, 1862 # 28 Bank of North America (Philadelphia); $1,000: Jan. 30, 1862 # 22 Original Link
SanMiguel, thanks for finding that picture.I had never heard of the Bank of North America before.I knew that there was a bank called the Bank of British North America, which was a chartered bank that issued notes for one of the provinces up in Canada. Aidan.
That looks like a confederate note I dont have my Friedburg book here, so i cant look it up, but i will once i get to work (if i remember lol )
Daggarjon, you're right about the design being similar to various banknotes from the Confederate States of America. I can't make out the printer's name though. Aidan.
I found this link: http://www.frbsf.org/currency/expansion/privatebank/s42.html This link shows this note to possibly belong to what was known as a wildcat back (soon to be known as broken banks since wildcat banks failed so quickly since they had no or little backing) As SanMiguel noted, this note is one of the highly replicated notes done prior to the hobby protection act (and hopefully none after). However, one of the links i found stated the serial for the replicated note was #28 .. unfortunatly, that looks like it is the number of your note. If it is, i would have serious resovations of thinking it was real......
The link i provided is a picture of the real macoy (so they say lol). Any note with the same design as the one on the link but with the serial # of 28 should be looked at as being a copy. I am not 100% certain, but looking at the different websites, that would seem to be the case.
Step 1 - crop your scan to include just what you want to show. That will automatically make the picture much more viewable. Step 2, check out this thread in the forum FAQ.
