I have a 1868 IHC. I was wondering how much it's worth. I also have a question, why does it look silver? Most IHC's I have are the classic copper look. Thanks,
1868 is a much better date. Can you post a picture? I have a low grade one that I bought for $13 IIRC. Or did you mean 1862?
your 1862 cent looks silver because of its composition, 1859 - 1864: 88% copper, 12% nickel (copper-nickel), 1864 - 1909: 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc (bronze), they were also thicker, 1859 - 1864: 2.33 mm, 1864 - 1909: 1.55 mm, and weighed more, 1859 - 1864: 4.67 grams, 1864 - 1909: 3.11grams edit: note: in 1864 they made a copper/nickel and a bronze
