Looks pretty granular. Never saw one like this before. Lots of hits but surface looks funky. Take it out of the holder and weigh it. Then take a SHARP photo of the reverse.
Funky surface is just my poor photos. Coin is legit. Hits don't bother me a bit as I didn't buy it as a high end coin. That said the toning is hiding plenty of luster.
If you guys can get good pictures of a toned coin that is this small, you are doing better than me. I do like the clashed dies that is common for this design.
I don't see anything untoward, but it's not a series I collect. Still, given the opportunity to buy something like this, I probably would not hesitate to pull the trigger. Nice pickup Darryl.
Drove an hour each way, it was auctioned 2 minutes after I walked in and left promptly after paying $90 for it. Auctioneer joked that I should stay longer next time. Could not have timed it better. They had it graded as EF40, I think it's better.
I am a sucker for a civil war date. This series is my love hate relationship, I love the design but I hate how small they are. I suspect that the pictures aren't doing that justice, they're a pain trying to photograph up close for most people myself included.
Had that, and only that, on the 'radar' dear fellow? I like a man who knows what he wants and resists temptation. Much like me........
Yep, there were others i might have checked out if this got away but I have wanted one of these for a while and wanted to stay reasonable. The ones on ebay never look this nice for the price.
Nice coin I like it, one must remember these are small coins and wear and bending is very common . I would use a scope on coins this size to image. You won't miss a scratch .
I love the trimes, but you have to be very careful about the rim dings, which happen a lot on these. I bought one awhile back that was around XF but then I saw the ding on the upper left. Aw, cripe. I would saw AU for sure on that beautiful coin.
I like it. Decent strike - not great but decent (the orbs aren't fully struck up). I think the weakness on the diamond is strike not wear. There is the tiniest bit of wear on the point of the star at 12 o'clock. I suspect it would grade mid-AU.
Nice. I'm no expert on this series, but they hold a certain appeal. Maybe I'll get into them someday. I also like the toning on this piece. I've seen some that have ugly black toning, but this one looks nice. I usually get interested in a coin series, learn / read about it, and then collect an entire date / mint mark set (business strike only), before moving on to the next one. I'm thinking the Peace Dollar is going to be next, but the trime's history is alluring.
It's only sitting on the holder, not in it. For a cell phone it did pretty good with this difficult piece.
I too like the toning. Looks right and many i have watched on ebay look either blast white or over dipped. This one has a nice strike very little wear and a good color for a 155 year old piece of silver. For me i have just been filling holes in a type set. Slow but sure. Have not finished a set of anything yet as i just don't have the drive or budget to put 1 together in the condition i would want. When kids get older maybe that will change.
