1861 Our Country Civil War token with unique error.

    I was going to list this on ebay when I took it out of the 2X2 it was in when I bought it I noticed it was rather thick and when I looked at the side it has a crack clear around the edge of the coin. It is not even like it was cut in half and then placed back together though. It weighs 4.4 grams and has some nice detail but a little dirty. Any ideas on this error. It also has a slight rotation on the reverse. Thanks

    I don't know that much about tokens, but it appears to be a planchet flaw. I don't think that the split, or crack makes it any more valuable. I like your token though.

    I'd say you have something we don't see too often in CWT's, a cast counterfeit. Probably not contemporary. More likely something made to sell as a souvenir during the Centennial years of the war back in the early 1960's.

    Agreed fastfun. It certainly does look cast by the condition of the surfaces and the edge seam.
