Hello, well it is hard to tell from your photo but from my experiance with these yours appears to be a cast counterfiet. If you can get a magnifying glass & 1st look at the rim for a seam running around it. In addition look at the surfaces of the coin . If it appears to have a porous or tiny pocked look to it then that would be another indicator that it is a cast piece. There are only 4 know pieces for that coin & Im pretty sure they are all accounted for. In addition I missed the begining of your post where you stated the coin has the same design on both sides. Therefor it is 100% a fake.
Okay, 100% guarantee that it is not real. Or, to be nice? 99.99999999999999999999% chance that it ain't the real thing. sorry.
Hey Treas? Did you not notice that's the reverse and there's a date on the bottom? Doesn't that belong on the other side? http://www.coinfacts.com/confederate_coins/1861_scott_restrike.htm Ribbit Ps: I also didn't catch it's a 2 sided tails coin, which is another give away but the date being on the reverse was all I needed to see to know it wasn't authentic.
