I had inherited this coin from my maternal grandfather more than 10 yrs ago. Below is a hyperlink to view the coin. I have yet to grade this coin out and would like your assessment on the potetnial grade. Is is close to AU. I do not beleive it went into circulation, but it may have been. My grandfather always kept it in his safe.

It won't let us see the photos----can you just post them here.
I will warn you that there is a ton of fake Territorial gold pieces out there---but of course this may not be---we will wait to make sure.

Here they are---I had to cut them down a good bit to save them here---I would have just uploaded them from my website at their normal size but they were sooo large my email account wouldn't bring them to my computer and I needed to go online to get them---and then I had to delete it off my account so the rest of my mail would come through----so if anyone needs them large you will need to send them again :computer:

    Now that's a coin !!

The coin has been damaged, but even so, if it's genuine, and I have no reason to suspect it is not other than its rarity, it is of great value. You need to have that coin authenticated. I would suggest NCS because NGC or PCGS will likley bodybag it due to the damage. As for grade, it would have to be net graded. I'd guess it would net at VF.

Do not play with it, try to clean it or even touch it if it can be helped. Take great care and send it off Registered Mail, insured to the max and have it authenticated.

    GDJMSP/Speedy...

Your suggestion to grade out with NCS, in addtion to grading it would you rely on them for conservation/cleaning services??

Or would this detract from its value?

I have to agree with GDJMSP--I see nothing that points it to being fake--I'm not good with any type of gold coin and I don't know heck about territorial gold but the little bit I know about fakes and from others I've seen this looks really good-
I also would agree that NCS is the way to go---they will net grade it---I would say that NCS is a trusted services--I've never sent coins to them but never have really seen a problem---as for this coin I really don't think they are going to conservation/clean it as it doesn't look like its needed---the reason you need to send it to them is that they will slab a problem coin---the other good places won't---

That is one very odd & rare coin.It actually resembles the regular coin design very strongly.

You could have them conserve it if you wanted to, but I don't really see the need. I doubt it would make any difference in value.

If that coin is genuine, they'll probably turn backflips just for the chance of putting it in their slab.

    Any thoughts on a grade?

I will move forward and submit it to NCS for grading.

Looking at the pictures could it grade as an AU50 or AU55??

    NCS - Same Day Service

I noticed on their pricing that you can purchase a 24 hour walk thru grading service or a 48 hour grading service.

    Any suggestions for this coin.

Any thoughts on a grade for this coin based on the pictures???

The coin doesn't grade that high IMHO---as for their grading---that really depends on you---how much do you want to put into it?
If you are willing to do it then do it fast :D
My grade would be....XF NET VF.

Too much wear for XF in my opinion, I'd say high VF net to low VF.
