I purchased this PCGS graded 1860 IHC in August from a Stack Bowers auction. Last month I sent the coin to PCGS for regrading and variety. Today I got the results and will post an update when the images are available. Here's the coin in the second generation PCGS holder. Take a guess at what the new label contains.
I find it a bit humorous that the coin has been shipped from PCGS yet the certification number doesn't show up using the PCGS certification app. Also the status says that the coin is in quality check. Hopefully, their database will be updated overnight. The old certification number is no longer valid so they at least removed that. That said, the coin is properly identified as a pointed bust type. I was a little surprised that the final grade was boosted to MS65. The reverse is pretty much void of any discernible marks. On the obverse, the small gash in the field in front of the forehead probably kept the coin from getting an MS66 grade. I thought that maybe the gash was big enough to knock the grade down 2 points to MS64; the original grade. Since the pointed bust type is considerably scarcer than the rounded bust type, the one point boost in grade more than doubled my initial investment. I wish that I was always this fortunate.
The coin now shows up in the PCGS database (49001260). The TrueView image is the original one as evidenced by the old certification number (06261867). Now I know what it means when a certification number doesn't match the one in the TrueView image.
