I don't see why it would be a counterfeit... Do you have a scale? I'm not sure it would grade, though. You're probably looking at under a $100 coin anyway, so grading is probably a waste. JMO
You're half dollar is completely genuine in my opinion. I doubt very seriously that it would be reproduced in the condition that it is in. The Seated Liberty series is my favorite they look cool even in worn condition. Nice half dollar.
Something to keep in mind is that many counterfeits had wear artificially added to them in order to help them pass. For example, while the OP's half is genuine (and nice looking as well for the grade) this one isn't yet was still able to pass for years.
Why are you buying these awful looking coins? Save your money and get a couple of decent coins, instead of raiding the junk bin.
Not everybody likes men in thousand-dollar suits or women buried in mascara and fake eyelashes. Similarly, not everybody likes gaudily toned or blast-white, never-circulated, only-for-show coins.
What awful looking coin? I think both half dollars in this thread look great and I wouldn't mind owning either of them. (Yes I like fake bust halves, I just don't have many of them.)
I don't wear a thousand dollar suit. Usually blue jeans, as a matter of fact. That has nothing to do with the fact that those coins are ugly and many are of dubious origin in terms of authenticity. You like fake, worn coins---go buy them.
The Bust $1/2 is admitted to be a fake, that circulated. Contemporary fake Busts are highly collectible
Wow. Was my point that unclear? Some people like a pristine, carefully cultivated appearance. Some people like an appearance that demonstrates hard, honest work, and a life well lived. I get it that you don't like common circulated coins. That's fine. I find it somewhat off-putting when you say coins I find interesting, attractive, and affordable are "awful-looking" or "ugly". Being put off is my problem, of course; you're free to feel puzzlement or contempt for my tastes, and certainly free not to share them. But when you state your preferences in a way that implies they are (or should be) universal, expect responses from those of us whose preferences differ.
Nobody said anything about pristine coins. I was stating that the coins are lacking in eye appeal. If you like them, great. Just know that they're not wise purchases in terms of value. If one wants a coin just to have it--go for it. However, if one wants to buy intelligently, it is far better to get ONE coin with eye appeal, than 5 that most would consider ugly or unattractive. It isn't just a matter of personal preference--it is a matter of spending wisely on coins that have residual value.
It'd be interesting to take a poll and see what percentage think the op's coin is ugly and what percentage don't think it's ugly. Then we could define what "most" really means.
