This is an interesting piece I am expecting to arrive in the next few days. It appears to be a decent sized copper electroplate of some sort. From what I can see and the description that seems to be originating from Heritage, http://coins.ha.com/itm/medals-and-...l-medallion-plaque-by-samu/a/232-5095.s#Photo this thing has ALOT going on. It has a depiction of the Feuchtwanger eagle in the upper left. Upper right is a reproduction of the Libertas Americana Lady Liberty. Lower left shows a flag as represented around the time of the Civil War. The lower right shows the US Shield beneath an All-seeing eye. The central circles are actually the obverse and reverses from two different medals. The Washington Before Boston Medal (top and bottom) and C. C. Wright's Declaration of Independence Medal (left and right). Also above the medals in the upper portion is a complete inscription of the Declaration of Independence. The lower portion contains a Roll call of the major battles of the Revolutionary War as well as a listing of all Presidents from Washington thru Buchanan (who was the President at the time of the this piece being made). From what I can gather Samuel Black never had anything to directly do with numismatics other than his Store cards and suspicions of working on a Feuchtwanger encased stamp. I guess this reproduction of his on so many numismatic medals and tokens sort of thrust his work into numismatic Americana. Does anyone have anything to add? Ever seen one? Know how many were made? Have the silver plated version? Info on Sam Black? As a side note. I think I am going to buy one of those reproductions to have framed to go alongside this piece. For $15 I think it would pair up nicely with that electroplate.
