Hey guys. On one of the last issues of Canadian Coin News they posted a new Canadian 1859 large cent variety! Just thought I would give you all a heads up to start checking out your hoards. I do believe it would be fairly hard to miss this one. Seeing as how all the variety's are based around the 9 anyway. It has been classified as a double punched Narrow 9. Keep your eyes peeled! And now I have one more variety added to my list!
My Charlton ,abiet old, has this variety mentioned. How is it different?? In Charlton 'Double-punched Narrow 9 #1' (resembles narrow 9 over 8) and 'Double-punched Narrow 9 #2' (traces of original 9 at left)
This one is slightly different then those both. This has a very distinct doubling on the east outside of the 9 carrying through to the left side. I'll try and find a picture I'm aloud to post. EDIT: Here is a link to the CCN website, http://www.canadiancoinnews.ca/ I can't find an enlarged picture but you can see it on the cover there
Snaz, Cool, thanks for the link and info on that new one. :thumb: Judging by the detail from the pic, that looks like a repunched date--a narrow 9/9? You can see where the underlying 9 was partially polished out, leaving those gaps at the bottom loop. A few US Indian Head cent rpds have a similar appearance.
No, this one looks like a regular ole Narrow 9. But you have it labeled as D9, and you have it in hand so you're the best judge for that. But this new variety is very different from the other varietys.
