I recently acquired 2 1859 Ansell sovereigns and an 1859 Small Date sovereign. I could not find out much about the Small Date 1859 sovereign except that it is very rare. Can anyone elaborate how rare is Very Rare and what would the value of an AU58 coin be? Thanks.
in the coin year book 1859 ansell is value £7000 in extra fine --the other £500 in extra fine with mintage 1,547,603 total for both---ansell additional line on lower part of hair ribbon--hope that helps
Thanks for the info Wyvern but I think the 1859 Small Date is different from the normal 1859 sovereign. The 5 in the date is similar to the Ansell with no vertical stem. I haven't seen many for sale online either. Hope it is rare
