I just picked up this 1859 large cent certified VF30 by ICCS and was wondering what is going on with the reverse. Could this be a planchet issue or is it PMD? Whatever it is it's completely toned over, but is it market acceptable?
PMD I'm all most 100% sure I just pickup same date look at all known varies for 1859 . There is a planchet flaw one but whole coin has a mark/crack .
I would sure like to see the N in Cent close-up because it appears that the upper left serif tip is struck OVER the indent. It could be a strike-thru of a metal shaving. The arc is too wide to have come from a one-cent coin.
Your right one cent coins have smooth edges, the coin that made the contact mark had a reeded edge like a dime or quarter.
