yea, im fascinated with WWII, mostly the airplanes, my favorite is the F4-U corsair

F4U's were formidable craft. I think the Jap's (pardon my political incorrectness) refered to it as the "whistling death"....

The "gull wing" was definatly a beautiful thing. Not good for "carriers" though. F4U was a favorite of land base Marine fliers.

P-38 was a good long range aircraft. Lots of fire power packed in the nose of that craft.

A dug and cleaned coin does not sound very good.

hiho off to work we go

I like the P-38 as well and built a model of one when I was 12. Then being a dumb kid I blew it up with a firecracker when I was 16. :goofer:

    Back to coins...

An 1858 FE is worth about $20 in G-4 condition. Both the large letter and small letter variety. I doubt very much that the coin you are being offered is in GOOD condition.

However, there is an 1858 "8 over 7" variety that is worth about $75 in G-4. If you are being offered this coin I would jump at the chance to buy it.

Otherwise I would wait for a better coin to come along. I fear the dealer is right and the coin is worth no more than $5.
