I was thinking this was PMD on this coin but I do have coins with lamination error. What do you think? Lamination on coins this old don't really demand a premium but don't deduct from the value.
It looks more like PMD to me. It doesn't have the appearance of a lamination. There are millions of ways a coin could pick up PMD, but there are only a few different ways that a lamination will occur. Usually, they'll appear fairly similarly. Your's doesn't look like a lamination.
Let me see the other side of that coin. I want to see if it's as marked up. That center irregularity may have come first, the marks inside, second. I say that because I've see these early cents with center irregularities something like that. I refer to them as that, because they have irregular shapes, defying description. This one is deeper than the ones I've seen.
I've been athletic all my life and still can't jump as far as some around here do to reach a conclusion. We've no chance at a fair (to you) diagnosis without both faces and higher resolution, and even then the level of wear means we'll likely never be sure. My gut says it's postmint but don't forget that guts don't have eyes.
Some of your pot marks look like these. Same metallic composition on the coins. Let's see your coin's reverse. And, yes, that obverse center needs to be photographed way sharper.
Well, the reverse isn't the clearest, but it's enough to make out the pot marks. It's just as on my reverse. I don't know what the origin of those is. That obverse center has still me going, too. There's where I think you really need some crisp, clear pictures.
Dark is good on old coins, it means that they haven't been messed with too much. I'm more in the VG-10 range for your coin. I would suggest that you try to remove all of the cardboard lint that is on the coin. They can do mysterious and fairly ugly things to your coin after a few years.
