Hello all! I have to share this amazing find today and ask for some help figuring out exactly what I have. I found this 1858 Flying Eagle in circulation, and it is in great condition. If anybody could help me figure some things out about it I would greatly appreciate it!

    1. Does anybody have an opinion about the grade?

    2. If is an 8/7 error? (I don't think so, but a second pair of eyes would be great)

    3. In picture 5, you can see the M is a little messed up and looks like some other errors I have seen here. Opinions?

Thanks in advance to anyone who posts, I'm new to collecting but absolutely love this site. (Sorry about all the links, I'm not sure how to post pics in the thread)

Nice one! I'll let someone else do the grading, but it looks at least XF. With that little wear I doubt it's been in circulation for 150+ years - looks like someone got ahold of a parent's collection and spent it. The date closeup is too fuzzy to tell if it's one of the known 8/7 attributions listed in my Rick Snow book, but I don't think it is from what i can see. The mashed M is post mint damage, in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply mackwork! Maybe I can get a picture of the date, but I'm almost positive it's not 8/7

From the pics I don't think so either.

That's pretty amazing in itself. I've never found one circulation, not even in the early 1950's when circulating IHC's were pretty common.
