1857 S Quarter - Your opinions on Grade please Hello, Here is an 1857 S quarter. I would really appreciate your opinions on grade and condition. This coin was bought at the B&M Norweb Collection Sale March 1988. Lot 1610. Originally from the Hollinbeck Coin Co. 1953. As usual, many thanks for your comments, Regards, Eduard
Where's the luster? I'd grade it XF because of an apparent lack of luster. Otherwise an AU details coin.
I agree I would go AU-50. I see a touch of wear - and I bet you could see the luster with the coin in hand.
Thanks for your replies. The coin does have some remains of what looks like lustre, but not much. Mostly around the stars. I don 't know about it being cleaned or not. The catalogue did not mention it. There were some AMAZING coins in that sale! I bid on many, and managed to get 2 quarters. This one and an 1833. Have a good day, Ed
Man, very nice coin! I have no idea on the grade, but I'd say XF-AU seems about right. Nice coin! :thumb: Phoenix
