Picked this up today and noticed onced I got home and noticed this has doubling (on all lettering which I believe is MD and that the doubling looks flat to me but I need to verify)

  3. that's a nice pick up, Shoewrecky! I clearly see something going on in the "1" and "8'. I'm far from an expert in Canadian coins though

Looks like a repunched date to me.

Well, the date is the only part you highly magnified, but is sure doesn't look like machine doubling to me.

The dealer today had the dollar one but was more than I was willing to pay so I saw this and it was one of the better one that was available and took it, I paid $6 for it (btw I forgot to bring the loop.) I may have to pick up another one next month because I like the design of these tokens.

Now is this considered a true doubling or a form of MD and no extra value?

With the halfpenny and penny coins, re-cut and repunched were common. Even though this looks like machine doubling, compared to others I've seen, I would opt for repunched.

I'm used to seeing these in much lower grades - that's a good find for the price!

How much was the dealer asking for the other coin?

I see repunched numerals in the date.

After enlarging the original photo, I only see that the D in Canada shows significant doubling. I don't see doubling over the entire obverse. I suspect the doubling is due to repunching when they made the obverse die. Maybe one of our Canadian coin experts can tell if it is a known variety.
