Recolored over the years? I've had this one since about 1987, given to me by my grandfather.
I've been trying to get some more information on its value, condition, or whatnot, but haven't thought about checking here until I found this site. Anything is appreciated, thanks! :)

The scratch in the obverse at about 10:00 tells me that it isn't, but I'm not well-versed.

It looks like it has been painted gold.

You're right, it does. But it isn't. Rather, if it was, it was an impeccable job. :)

Are you saying that the coin is naturally toned? I still think it was plated, as the only places that are a brown color, are the areas that show wear. I would say your coin has vf-30 details and is worth probably 10-15 dollars since it is plated.

Yeah, I'm thinking if anything, it's been plated. I've got several others with nearby dates, that have the rich red (some) and dark brown (others) colors, inc. an 1856 slanted '5' variation.

Welcome to the forum. Your coin has definitely been gold plated. The gold plating has worn off in spots were the brown is showing through.

Thanks, guys. Might I be welcomed to post the remaining years for some friendly evaluations as well?

Of course, we here can't get enough of coins, so please post away! I could look at coins all day long :)

ditto...plated.Apparently it was quite common 'cause I've seen a lot....and even own one.

Gold colored plating is fairly common on old tokens (of the same general era as the OP's large cent), and the term used to denote it is "gilt", or abbreviated as "gt" after an id number.
