I dont know anything about canadian coinage, but considering its apparent age and condition, either you made out like a bandit or you paid $19.99 to much for a fake.

Was checking out your coin vs. the image pictured on www.coinfacts.com No expert here, but your's looks legit, just a little worn. Definitely would get this one slabbed/graded to get it verified. Coinfacts listed the following sale for a lower grade one....and the lowest sale price listed:

ANACS Net EF-40, AU Details, Damaged, Scratched. Ex - Heritage Numismatic Auctions, Inc.'s, "Summer 2001 Long Beach Signature Sale", May 31-June 2, 2001, Lot 8789, not plated, sold for $149.50

Based on that, you made out like a bandit for $20!!!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!

I looked in my redbook and found your coin. If it is not fake it looks to be about a $300 coin. great find if its real (probably is). :)

Type II gold dollars are one of the MOST frequently counterfeited coins. Back in 1980 when gold was at $800 and oz Silvertowne had hundreds of gold type sets come through the shop and in almost EVERY case the type II dollar and three dollar gold were fakes. Awhile back ANACS reported that something like 80% of the Type II dollars submitted were fakes.
