I may have paid a bit too much for this. I bought it off of eBay and after getting it in hand it may not be valued at what I paid. Before I disclose what I paid, what are your thoughts on this one? Thanks.
Arrows are Variety 3. They had arrows by the date for the 3 years they were minted. This was to show a reduction in the weight of the coin. The rim nick on the reverse doesn’t help but to me it looks like it’s had an old light cleaning and is in XF condition.
Scratch on face, rim dings, collar fading on both sides. Personally, if I were interested, low $14.00 high $18.00. My opinion only. Good luck and thanks for sharing @edteach
Nice starter for the series. A vf 30" cleaned as well dipped ".....90% are! The mute luster has been dipped away as many h 10's were album coins. Thus heavy toning.not quite the high date die marriage . There were a lot of half dimes struck in the mid 50's and the 53 p and 53 o no arrows were just about totally melted down the day after they were minted. * warning h-10's are habit forming ..... Ok done my part gave warning https://sites.google.com/view/clintcummins/half-dime-attribution-guide https://518616078926146539.weebly.c...bust-half-dimes-and-how-to-identify-them.html
I have to agree with the "cleaned and dipped" but I think I'd call it a lil higher then Paddy.. say 35-40 vf/xf. Very nice piece regardless, finding "uncleaned" half dimes has become a major issue for me lol
I went a bit nuts on eBay. Here are the half dimes I bought. This was one lot of 3 Only one has arrows.
This was one that I only paid 6 dollars for. So the condition is not a big issue. I think its worth it for 6 bucks.
I love these little coins. A half dime sure but a lot more than today. I don't think I could get a stick of gum for that today.
Half Dimes can be quite addictive. Actually, a number of the earlier coin types are that way. The 1847 is a Type 2 and considered a semi-key date. The 1856 is a Variety 2 resumed with the weight of Variety 3.
