David, Welcome to CoinTalk. Those are cool little coins. Did you have a question about your coin or coin collecting in general? What else do you collect?
Welcome to coin talk David! Its hard to value your coin without pictures or at least a detailed description but its probably worth very roughly $40 depending on exactly what condition its in.
Hey David 3 cent pieces are great coins, especialy the silver ones like yours, keep collecting & have fun,if you have any questions just ask, the members here are pretty knowledgeable and always willing to help. rzage
Actually, without an image, we have no idea what the piece is worth, based merely upon a description of "very good". "Very good" might not be the condition of the coin in numismatic terms.
Very true but he didn't say "graded very good" so I just automatically assume that by "very good condition" its around VF to XF.
Perhaps it is. But maybe it's Fine, or AU or deeply/darkly toned unc. - we just don't have any way of knowing at this point.
Yep. And it doesn't look like David has came back or posted anything else on the forum. This may turn out to be one of modern histories greatest mysteries!
Well the alleged 1852 3 cent piece is quickly becoming a very popular urban legend. Possible sighting from central North Carolina: Lulz i'm a joker
I saw some 3 cent pieces once, they landed in a ship and performed medical experiments on me that I don't want to talk about.
Not to hijack this thread, but what's everyone's thoughts on this since we are talking three cent pieces? Here is what I see - rim damage on obverse between 1-2 O'clock, between 7-8 and between 9-10. Rim damage around 10 O'Clock on the reverse. At first I thought that this is most likely man made damage, but then I read this article in Coin World titled "Ragged clips, the scarcest of incomplete planchet errors". This damage almost looks like some of the pics in the article, but this wasn't as severe. And then rim damage at 2 O'Clock. Can't really see it in the pics, but it is there. Also, it appears that the coin has corrosion on it. The coin was graded by the shop owner as fine. I bid on this and won it. I don't know if I paid too much, so let me know value thoughts. I liked these coins, but have never collected them. I should have waited to learn more about the coins before I bought one. Unfortunately, I didn't see the damage on the rims before I bid. Also, the date is 1860 - I don't know why it doesn't show up well in the pics? Thanks.
jacer that 3 cent piece is pretty rough I'm new to grading but i would say its probably AG-3 or G-4. The rims are pretty badly nicked up and you cant see the last letter in the date at all. and on a more serious note last night I though a heard a very faint eerie tapping on my window at about midnight. Then this morning when i was walking to my car I saw some strange footprints in the mud and there is no doubt in my mind that they were 3cent piece footprints. Coincidence? I think not.
