1851 Large Cent, genuine or counterfeit?

    The knob inside the loop of the 5 has me wondering.

    I I think that is extra metal from the same hit that the 5 took. Looks like it was hit on the right and was pushed to the left forming that knob.

    Based upon the analysis work that many on this site perform examining coins with bad strikes etc. brings to mind a new term, at least to me. Forensic metallurgy

    My opinion is that is a nice looking coin. I'll leave forensics to the metallurgyists here, and most are pretty good.

    Nice looking coin. If that's a counterfeit, it's a pretty sophisticated one. Looks OK to me?
