Hey Guys, It's been a while since I have been on. Everything is good, just been extremely busy with my kids sports on top of my normal job. Kind of been a 2nd job for the last year. My son is heading off to college this summer, so I will have more time to get back to the hobbies. Hope everyone here is well and look forward to talking more in the near future! So the question is, what do you think of this half cent and how do you think it would grade? What effect on grade do you give the hit in the neck. Just received it from an auction with some other coins but this was the one I really wanted out of the group. It will be going into my 1800's type set. Look forward to your thoughts!!! Please remember you are seeing a much larger view than what would be used to grade the coin. Best Regards Darryl
I think the details are AU (AU 53-55), but I would be a bit worried about the neck hit. I could see that (coupled with the other scattered hits) lowering the grade or even causing an AU Details grade.
Thank you everyone for your feedback. Other than the neck hit you do not see most of the chatter unless it's under magnification. The only noticeable wear I see is in the curl of hair at the neck. If not for the hit I would have said 55 but I think that hit would certainly knock it down a grade or two. I would hope based on how it looks in hand it would not get a details grade. Here it is in the type set. I have 5 more coins to go and plan on updating, updating, and updating these coins over time. It's not a race and gives me a goal that is easy to achieve and enjoy. Love pulling it out and sharing with friends that are not collectors. Even in the condition they are in it really gets people to experience coins they have likely never seen and enjoy a small piece of the hobby. Thanks again!
