I am preparing pictures of a group of large cents and one is considerably different than all the others. All the rest have an undecorated edge and a smooth rim on the front and back.

The one from 1850 has a scalloped rim on the front and back, and a decorated edge. The decoration appears to repeat.

Has anyone seen this before ?

I think somebody messed with it. but the amount of copper metal in the scalloped area looks thicker than the other coins.

I will send pics to all want to look

    Thanks

Real, probably, damaged post mint. I too believe it was an old jewelry piece. Got a picture of the reverse?

I see no reason to believe the coin is anything but real and with post-mint damage.

Someone made it puuurrrrrty. I actually have one that's similar, but the edge has been flattened into about 16 facets.
