Here is the last coin from the four I got from the flea market last April 28. It was on the second shelf in the back in poor light and I quickly scanned it. California statehood year, that was enough to seal the deal but I got another surprise. Around VG10, in the poor light and no loop I thought it was G4. The reverse was the surprise...it has lots of original color and is around F12. Hard to see from the pics but the obverse is brown but the reverse is red brown. Value-wise it settles out worth $7.50 more than what I paid for it which was $20. But it will never be sold by me, having become an instant heirloom item. It will go to one of my sons, my collection being divided equally between the 2 of them. The third coin was a 2021 2 Pound Britannia, which turned out to have facial hairlines and milk spots so I won't post it. It is still a beautiful gem of a coin and it was my first pick up of those. I hope you enjoy the post...Spark
Decent overall coin. Wait! They have Flea markets where you live. I bought my first coin at one a long time ago. Thanks for sharing and bringing back the memory.
We live in Idaho most people don't even know what a Flea Market is. If you find success it will be at a yard sale, garage sale, or estate sale. Finding coins at these places is about 99 to 1. Nearest coin dealer is 50 away, internet is a touch key away, oh well such is life in the slow lane, beep beep!
One last thought on just these four coins: I had a blast handling them. By that I mean what all members here and all collectors go through in this hobby: …the initial thought of going to see what you can find, the hunt. …the find of something you consider significant. …working with the coins in your hands, feeling the heft and admiring a design. …sharing your find with others. Even my wife was impressed because she knows, after 52 years of wedded bliss, that I never buy coins…once every few years at best, but her eyebrows raised when I showed her the Braided Hairs. …and finally, researching the coins. Getting the accurate data on the coins including historical news about the time period when the coins were made and in possession of the hoi polloi. All in all, these finds checked all the boxes, including sharing here on Coin Talk with all my compatriots…Spark
