I was wondering if any one had any ideas on this coin or token. It says 1849 I do not know if it is a copy of an old coin or it is an old token. It is the same size as a US half dollar. Any help would be appreciated.

The 2006 Redbook lists $5 and $10 produced by them in 1849! They do not list a $20 Gold Piece and the book states to beware of pieces struck in base metal (not sure if they mean Gold or another metal) that have "Cincinnati Mining & Tracing Company" on them instead of what it should be which is "Cincinnati Mining & Trading Company". With this in mind, I would say that there is a 98% chance that yours is a fake!

    Sorry!

I say that yours looks like it could be a fake....I'm not to up on this type of coin/token but it smells of fake.

Thanks for the info. I found this in the bottom of an old cash register. I figured it was fake.
