I bought this coin because I liked it. I may have paid too much for it. It looks like there are other markings around the date. Not sure if this is some type of error or not? Also, I was wondering if I should rinse with distilled water to see if any of the crud will come off or just leave it as is? I appreciate any help or comments. Thanks
It's a nice example of repunched die. I don't know the Sheldon # for it (I don't specialize in die varieties). You can use distilled water, or even better, acetone with a Q-Tip -works best at removing the PVC, 'gunk', etc.
Thanks for your help Fred. I have heard of soaking them in acetone but have not heard of using a Q-Tip. I will give it a try and see if it reveals anything more.
Thanks for the info! Would you know where I might go to look for the value of this Repunched Date coin? My books only have the regular pricing. I paid $38 for this coin. Not sure if I paid too much. Thanks again!
I did find one on ebay with this same die going for $120. They might be asking too much for it. Not sure.
I don't have the latest issue of Penny Prices, but the previous issue lists an EAC graded VF-20 at $25. VF 30 is listed at $50.
