I found this beautiful coin at a dealer the other day. I saw something in the lettering under the loupe, but I didn't make the connection with the E/N variety listed in Krause until I got home. But clearly under magnification, the E in REGINA is punched over an N.

Thanks, and would you believe...it was unattributed and all of $5? :)

YOU GOT THAT FOR $5 ?????????
I bought mine last year for £100, and it was not much better than that.

    Hey Kurt!
Very nice coin indeed! I have the same date without the E/N but it's an interesting example of a "false overstrike". You mentioned that only under magnification this becomes clear. The one I have looks like the variety to the naked eye, but under magnification it becomes clear that it's only a faded portion of the E and some warping from (I guess) something pressing on that spot.
Thanks for the large pictorial example.
