    Greeting CT members..

Here is a great error on a not so great coin.
I feel it's definitely the 1844/81 error, but what happened to this coin? Is it just excessive wear ?
    Thanks all.

These are not my forte but we did have a member here who is a specialist and was also an EAC member. Does anyone here remember his handle and maybe could tag him?

Other than the date error I am more curious about the coin itself. It's in horrible shape. Lol. Is that Just extreme damage/wear to the coin? Or is it something else?

I've seen much worse looking ones. Perhaps just some light rinsing with distilled water and perhaps a soft toothbrush and then letting it sit in the sun awhile to get back some tone?

There are several of us here (EAC #1947). And yes it is the 1844/81.

No slight intended. I just can't remember everyone's handle all the time.;)

No slight taken. I know it wasn't intended as one.
