Newbe here. I am looking for info on a large cent 1839 and hope someone here can offer some insight. I can't seem to find another with the date as large as this one. Afraid of possibility of a counterfeit, or maybe a really rare coin. Photos are only to show date. Thanks
I looked up other 1839 cents, and without exception, all of those pictured had curved dates that paralleled the rim. Yours is straight like later ones. Is this a particularly valuable year or variety?

There is only one variety of the 1839 braided hair large cent and I'm sorry to say that this isn't it. The variety known as N-8 is the first appearance of the braided hair design. It should look like this.
So does that mean you think it is a counterfeit? I just got this in an auction lot and don't know anything about it.
