Alright so I'm looking trying to find more information about the lg and sm stars for the 1838 dimes and half dimes. I'm reading that the small stars started out as the large stars, but were then grind down to give the appearance of the small stars. So how exactly can you tell if your version is the small stars or large stars? I've looked at the pictures on both PCGS and NGC website, but when I look at ebay listings they all look the same, any help anyone?

Is this one small or large?

I'm pretty sure the small stars on the 1838 dime were really intended for half dimes.

Based on the images, I think the 1st one is the small star, the 2nd looks to be large stars.
