1838 cornet ... vf-xf?

    a guy i know is selling this large cent... was wanting any opions on its, grade, worth?

    It looks to be in net (for the ding on the obverse)-40. A pretty type coin for sure worth $70 or so I'd say.

    hey thanks bone, thats about where i was at.. actually i was going for 60.00
    but the extra to grade it ... there ya go...

    ps.. so why is pcgs the "gods" of grading. personaly i like the new anacs holders more.. and they are the oldest??
    besides the sun dosen't revolve around d halls butt!! all i see is a moon that thinks way to much of itself

    ya they all suck.. honestly .. i wish i could hold all the coins in my hands... bare... just as they came from the mint!!! i hate the plastic prison!!

    Got a few in plastic, but not many. If I was forced to choose a TPGer suspose ANACS would be my choice. I've seen their new holders but I don't have an example. I like the older ones cause they're small, you know...

    Personally if I bought this coin and was going to have it graded I would send it to ANACs. Mainly because I agree it will net grade - I do not know why but to me the color looks a little dark and splotchy to me, I prefer the lighter brown coins. I would have put the price between 60-80. I also like the new ANACs holders and I also like the idea that they net grade a coin. Now if I was completely an expert at grading I might like PCGS better, but I doubt it.

    Very nice coin, lots of detail. But it does have that ding on the obverse. Also it looks like it has been cleaned and on the revers the C on AMERICA seems to have had some corrosion removed from it in my opinion. The picture is kind of dark so I may be wrong. Still a very nice coin.
