    Would this make EF-40?

It may go for VF-35 but there are a couple of nasty looking scratches on the obverse.

    Thats a die break.

The reverse has a die crack but the obverse has scratches.

The coin is 171 years old, what do you expect? I wouldn't call them NASTY scratches either. Very nice looking coin! I bet it would go xf40 in any holder.

Thanks, I think its a nice coin also. But there are no scratches, I repeat NO scratches. That is a die break that is common to that date. :)

    I agree with that...

From the picture that thing on the face doesn't look like any die break I've ever seen on an 38... The mark between H and A at the bottom of the reverse is definitely a die break.

True. I was actually only referring to the reverse that the original person said had "nasty scratches" on it. The small marks on the front are almost invisible unless you blow this up the way I have.

    Would it not holder?

The ''nasty 'looking' scratches" I am going by are the ones on her neck and chin area. Also ther is a light scratch going down the face into the hair, but its not bad. There also appears to be a flaw in the planchet at about 7 o'clock. It is a very nice coin otherwise.

It depends on how those marks look in hand... I'd say from the picture i'm leaning more towards not... but we all know how pictures are.

Other then those marks it really looks like a nice original coin.

Very nice coin. Definitely XF in my opinion. I agree that the coin has small scratches, but totally know how pictures tend to magnify them. They are probably barely noticible in hand. I'm not sure if a tpg would BB it based off of them, but they may slightly downgrade it. All in all, very nice coin. I would be proud to own it. :)

LOL. Well, here is mine from my type set. I paid $70 for it a while ago, and yours is definitely nicer imo. Mine has retoned beautifully over an old cleaning, but still will need an upgrade eventually. I'll probably shoot for something in the AU range.

Sorry, but your half would be more like his, in the VF-35 to XF-40. The Bust design has a lot of detail in the hair. Below is a link to an MS-66 half to see what detail is there. BTW nice coin.;)

No need to apologize. I agree with VF-35 for mine. Actually, I think his is better than mine. My point is that I will upgrade eventually, and when I do, I will go for a coin in the AU range.
