Here is a new raw purchase as an upgrade for my type set. It has some lovely die breaks and rim cuds! IMO, it has been dipped or lightly cleaned at one point; but it still retains a fair amount of cartwheel luster and has attractive surfaces. Feel free to opinionate!

Nice! I agree with it being cleaned, but that is still an attractive coin. I have a cleaned AU that I used as a pocket piece and is now sitting in an envelope to retone.

Yeah, the cleaning in this case is light enough not to bother me, and I've seen much worse in top tpg slabs. The cartwheel luster is there, and that's what matters.

I've got one also. For my type set. Slabbed AU-55.
It has a die crack on the reverse too, but entirely different than yours (I like die cracks).
It starts at about 6 and goes up through the shield and curves over and exits about 10.

    Nice coins.

I agree with the old cleaning, but really the coin is still fairly attractive.

As an aside, this type of bust half dollar is my favorite design of all the bust coins.

And quite an attractive example you've found. Congrats....Mike

Okay - opinionate I will. Pack it up and ship it to me. I have few cleaned old puppies like this one so it won't be lonely. :) Nice coin - I like it also. And I agree it does look nice(from the pictures) than some of the graded ones I have seen.

Very nice, could be worse, could have a 1834 with rim ding and tiny deep scratch on the front & back

I need an old bust half like yours with the reeded edge for my type set. Nice coin

LOL. well thanks guys. It certainly looks better in hand. My camera really tends to bring out EVERY hairline, and they are barely visible in hand. It has the look of a dipped coin rather than a hairlined/cleaned coin. It just does not enough toning for it's age. The hairlines themselves are scattered like I've seen on original early circ silver. It might do better to put in an envelope like ksparrow for a while, but it may achieve some nice toning as it resides in my Dansco 7070.:D
