Ok, so I purchased this coin. http://cgi.ebay.com/1837-Capped-hal...dual?hash=item4cea3d39cb&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 This was a BIN from type coin. Is there something here I'm not seeing? Do you think he made a typo? Unless the floor completely fell out for CBHs, I don't see why he would sell for this price. If so, I'll give him a chance to retract.
Havent paid yet, and would let him out of it if it were a mistake. Anyways, it was a PCGS AU-53 1837 half dollar with a BIN of $55.
WOW! Seems to be an obvious mistake though, Jerry of Type Coin Company is a pretty fair guy and always sets up at the Long Beach shows. His coins are pretty much priced at retail levels, but I've bought a few of his eBay coins w/ the MSN cash rebate deal in the past. He probably meant to list it at $550 or something like that.
Yeah. And part of the reason I purchased it was so that if it were a mistake, someone wouldn't come along and purchased it that would try to force him to hold to the contract. I'm all about getting a good deal on ebay, but I won't hold someone to a BIN error. If it sold that cheap in an auction, that's another story.
Interesting, let us know what happens. It seems that he revised his B-I-N on August 26th. So, who knows, perhaps ya got a deal. Pay for it, or he may not know what you are doing.
I agree. $550 would not be an unreasonable starting point for this coin. You just moved WAY UP on my respect list. The world could use a LOT MORE people like you.
Kudos to you for not trying to take advantage of an honest mistake and for going to the effort for protecting the seller from others who would love to profit from it. I greatly respect that. I hope he is extremely appreciative as you deserve.:thumb:
Thanks for your responses... Here was his response this morning, I wrote him back basically saying that is what I expected and no problem. I never did pay for it, so all is good, case closed. :smile
You're too honest. Ebay asks three times if the info you entered on the page when making a listing is correct. It's not like they didn't have plenty of chances to double check. I may have gone your route, but then I might not have. Guy~
The only difference between your actions and what mine would have been is that you were proactive. We would have both realized the error. You knew it and said "no problems" before it became an issue. I would waited until the seller contacted me. Result would have been the same; you just did it better. Had something similar years ago (and with stamps). Bid and won a stamp for less than $50 as described. Totally wrong description and the stamp I got was worth $500. I called and offered to return it for what I bid. Auctioneer/Owner said his mistake and said keep it. Guess what. One of the better stamps in my collection and I have no problems dealing with this person.
Way to go Johnny , like I like to say , What goes around comes around , hope something good is right around the corner . rzage
Kudos to you Johnny honesty and being fair is what it is all about. True coin collecters take care of there own and never try to cheat them..
