    Hi,

I was recently given this coin but can not find any thing about it.

It's dated 1837, what looks like a long necked griffin, standing on a wave? is on the front, on the back is curved wheat shafts with "one cent" in the center, above that is the word? "Feuchtwangers" under the "one cent" is the word "composition".

It's not copper...... I was wondering if this is an actual coin or something else.

I would appreciate any one's thoughts on this.

    Thank-you

It's a One Cent Feuchtwanger Token. Bavarian-born chemist Lewis Feuchtwanger minted One Cent tokens as substitute for official US coinage during the shortage of 1837-1844.So it is an actual coin or token.Whatever you want to call it.That should help you.;) B12

My dealer had one today...wanted $75 for it...I'm kindof looking for one but I think I can find one cheaper or at least a better grade one for $75.
