Here's part of the Orlando Sunshine State harvest - an 1837 50c capped bust with reeded edge. From the earliest days of the "new and improved" US Mint, sporting closed collars and a steam press. Grade opinions and comments always welcome. Since the Overton book only goes to 1836 Lettered Edge, I haven't attributed this yet; feel free to take a shot. Live it up, FUNsters !
I've got an AU-58 and yours looks "more original" than mine. I don't see any distracting marks. Can't tell if there has been any cleaning. If it's unc then MS-64 or -65 is quite possible.
Well I think AU58 and the tpg ignored the very slight rub on some of the high points, so they called it a MS64. No matter what it is a beauty.
Raw ? Naw. It's NGC MS64, which I feel is a fair grade. I can see how some folks might look at the photos and see what appear to be luster breaks. They aren't. It's an artifact of light gleaming off hair curls. Several dealers offered to buy it, including one who is a leading authority and longtime dealer of Olde Silver. It's mint state. It reminds me how important it is to examine a coin by rotating it to get all light angles. It also reminds me how difficult it is to grade a coin from photos.
